1.       The technological process

Since prehistoric times, humans beings have used their intelligence to find solutions to the different problems they have encountered will trying to meet their needs. So the history of humanity is linked to technology or, in other words, technology has existed for as long as human life.

The work method that has to be followed to solve technical problems is called the technology process.

2.       Introduction to technical drawing.

The technological process requires a specific laguage that can be used to represent the objects that we design and build. We have all seen objects, devices, machines or facilities drawn on paper, witch is called a plan.

Technical drawing contributes a language of comunication that is specific to the field of technology. As an introduction to this language, the first step is becaming familiar with the drawing instruments and accurately using them in exercises related to basic constructions.

3.       The representation of objects

Graphics representation is a form of communication that provides us with images of objects, pieces , facilities, buildings and many other things by means of drawings. To make these drawings, a serie of stablished rules must be followed so they can be iterpreted correctly. Everything related to graphic representation that follow these rules is called Technical drawing.

We are going to analyse this types of representations, diferentiating between free-hand drawings and those created using drawing tools, and between drawings using views and those using perspectives.

4.       Materials and their properties.

Objects, systems and machines are desinged so that they can later be built. Without the different materials available to us, it would be impossible to complete the technological process and meets our needs.

In order to choose the materials that are best suited to each object we must know exactly what all their properties are. We can not build a structure out of fragile materials or the windows of a car out of opaque material.

5.       Working with materials

In most cases, the unique properties and characteristics of materials determine their specific use. No one would make a door out of cardboard. a pan out of wood or a skateboard  out of glass. Using wood, metals, plastics, etc. may be correct in same situatios but insuitable in others. so, when choosing a material for a certain project, you need to know its characteristics.

6.            Structures.

Structures are everywhere. Look around and you´ll see all kinds of elements that support objects. In fact, everything that needs to be held or supported must be supported by structures.

Some structures also serve to protect objects by surrounding them. Other structures are internal; for example, your skeleton is inside your body. Some objects might even have several structures: an outer structure that protects the internal parts, and an internal structure that supports the object´s own weight. Examples of this include cars, trains, aeroplanes and many other means of transport.

Mechanisms.

Forces and energy surround us and we are continuosly affected by them. Humans first started to develop technology with the use of primitive tools and implements, which enabled them to perform task more easily than when they just used their hands. Over time, humans have created mechanisms and machines to control their environment and, as result, use it for their own benefit.

There are many different kinds of mechanisms: some convert motion, others transmit it and some change speed. The purpose of mechaisms is to  help us create objects that makes our lives easier.

7.       Introduction to electricity

Electricity is a convenient and clean form of energy that is very commonly used in our everyday lives. It can easily be transformed into other forms of energy, like luminous energy, heat energy, mechanical energy, etc. Situations as simple as switching on or off a light, turning the washing machine on or usisng a computer are possible thanks to electricity.
